Alphabet
Around 2000 BC C. AD, the Egyptian pharaohs realized they had a problem. With each military victory over their neighbors, they captured and enslaved more prisoners war. But the Egyptians could pass the written orders to these slaves, who could not read hieroglyphics.
The first systems of writing, as Egyptian hieroglyphics, were very heavy and difficult to learn. These systems are thousands of characters, with each symbol represents an idea or a word. Memorizing them could take years. Only a handful of Egyptians could read and write the script complicated.
Linguists believe that almost all modern alphabets are derived from the simplified version of hieroglyphics devised by the Egyptians over four thousand years to communicate with their slaves. The development of an alphabet, the writing system used in the Western world changed the way the old statement.
In the simplified version, each character represents a unique sound. This innovation reduces the number of characters from several thousand to several tens so it is much easier to learn and use the characters. The complicated hieroglyphic language was eventually forgotten, and academic have not been able to translate the characters until the discovery of the Rosetta Stone in 1799.
The alphabet was a great success. When the Egyptian slaves eventually migrated back to their countries of origin, took the writing system with them. Propagation alphabet throughout the Middle East, becomes the basis for many writing systems in the region, including Hebrew and Arabic. The Phoenicians an ancient civilization of shipping operators, the spread of the alphabet of the tribes they encountered along the Mediterranean coast. Greek and Roman alphabets, in turn, were based on the ancient Phoenician script. Today, most Western languages, including English, using the Latin alphabet.

Literature
Tuesday, Day 2
Ulysses
James Joyce's Ulysses (1922) is widely regarded as the best novel written in English in the twentieth century. He tells Homer's Odyssey as part of a single day – June 16, 1904 – Dublin, Ireland, recasting Odysseus of Homer great hero, with the probable sign of Leopold Bloom, the aging cuckold ad salesman who spends his days running errands and appointments different professional before he returned home at last.
Although Bloom seems modest and ordinary appears as a heroic figure, showing compassion, forgiveness and generosity towards almost everyone in the gallery of strange characters he meets. In his world, and often unnoticed acts, practices the heroism of everyday heroism that may not be possible in the modern world. And despite the fact that he still feels a strange – is a Jew in overwhelmingly Catholic Ireland – Bloom is optimistic and does not take into account their insecurities.
Ulysses is celebrated for his portraits of incredibly rich, its astonishing array of allusions to other literary and cultural works, and many innovations with the language. Throughout the novel, Joyce's flirtation with literary forms and genres, ranging from drama to advertising copy to Old English. The novel is perhaps most famous for its extensive use of narrative flow of consciousness – Joyce attempt to represent the inner thoughts of his characters as they occur without any effort to impose order or organization. This technique has become a characteristic of modernist literature and influenced many other writers, like Virginia Woolf and William Faulkner, who has also experimented with it in their works.
It is not surprising, Ulises is a difficult journey for the reader, in particular his famous last chapter, which recounts the thoughts of Bloom's wife, Molly. Molly reverie continues for more than 24,000 words, however, is divided into only eight cases of mammoth. Despite the challenge, the chapter shows Joyce at his most lyrical, especially in the last lines, that reaffirms her love for her husband of Molly, despite his infidelity:
and then he asked me to say yes yes my mountain flower and first I put my arms around him yes and drew him towards me so I could feel my breasts all perfume yes and his heart was as mad and yes I said yes, yes I will.

Ulysses was banned for obscenity in the U.S. for nearly twelve years because of its (mostly indirect) sexual images.

Lascaux cave paintings
The cave paintings of Lascaux are among the first works known art. They were discovered in 1940 near the village of Montignac, in the center of France, where four boys fell into a cave. Inside they found a series of rooms, with about 1,500 paintings of animals that have been between 15,000 and 17,000 years.
There are several theories about the role of paintings. A natural cave features may have suggested the appearance of a prehistoric animal with an observer who was then added Facts Highlights relay his vision to others. Cloning
In 1997, a sheep named Dolly, the world of baby reproductive cloning. She was a clone, because she and her mother share the same nuclear DNA, ie, their cells carried the same genetic material. They were like identical twins generations reared apart.
Scientists at the Roslin Institute in Scotland, Dolly was created by a process called nuclear transfer. Taking the genetic material of an adult donor cell, which was transferred to an unfertilized egg whose genetic material has been removed. Before her death, Dolly was the mother of six lambs, all officers in the old style.
A group of Korean researchers claimed to have cloned a human embryo in 1998, but his experience has been arrested at the 4-cell stage, there was therefore no proof of their success.

Fundamentals
Music is organized sound that can be reproduced by imitation or rating. Appearance and Reality
Throughout its history, one of the major themes of philosophy has been the distinction between appearance and reality. This distinction has been the heart of the thought of the first philosophers, called the Presocratics, because they lived before Socrates.
The Socratic view that the ultimate nature of reality was very different from how they normally appear. For example, a philosopher named Thales said that Despite appearances, all reality has finally been made of water, Heraclitus believed the world was constructed of fire. Furthermore, Heraclitus maintained that everything was in constant motion. Another thinker, Parmenides insisted that nothing actually moved and that any movement apparently was an illusion.
The Presocratics have taken seriously the possibility that all reality is ultimately made of a substance depends on more fundamental. And it is suspected that the non-critical, everyday observation tends to occur with a misleading picture of the world. For these reasons, his thought is often considered a precursor of modern science and philosophy.
Much later philosophers – including Plato, Spinoza and Leibniz – Follow this tradition and introduces models alternate reality, where they were closer to the truth of the ordinary points of view common sense in the world.

Torah
The Torah is the generic name given to the first five books of the Hebrew Bible, or the five books of Moses. Christians refer to these books as the Old Testament. The word Torah can also refer to all spectrum of the law on various Jewish texts and oral traditions.
The five books of Moses are the basis for the 613 laws that govern the Jewish faith, and are the basis of the three major monotheistic world religions – Judaism, Christianity and Islam. These are:
Genesis tells the story of creation, and history of the Israelites, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and their families
Exodus recounts the exodus from Egypt to Canaan, including Moses receiving The Ten Commandments
Leviticus: contains the rules and practices of worship
Numbers: Relates the journey of the Israelites in the desert
Deuteronomy consists of a speech by Moses to the end of his life that tell the story of Israel and ethical teachings
The five books are traditionally have been given to Moses on Mount Sinai. Alternative theories claim the beginning of the Torah was given on Mount Sinai, but that revelation continues throughout the life of Moses.
Historically, archaeologists have argued that the Torah was written somewhere between X and VI centuries BC. Proponents of the documentary hypothesis, which is heretical by orthodox Jews say that the first five books from four sources, and finally collected in one fifth of the author or publisher. The arguments in favor of this theory are different names used by God, different styles of writing. and repetition of stories.
From the beginning, the Torah was accompanied an oral tradition, it was necessary to an understanding. Although it was thought that the oath to write the oral tradition, the need for what eventually emerged, leading to the creation of the Mishna. Later, when rabbis have discussed these two texts, the Talmud was written to compile their arguments.

Do you think it is appropriate for teenagers to read novels for adults?
I do not mean all adult novels, but I have found it surprising that I fell on the people here are rather surprised that 15, I read books like Lolita, Atonement, The Virgin Suicides, Perfume: Story of a Murderer, citing them as inappropriate and doubting that I can understand the problems in them. I do not understand why some people doubt that there are mature teenagers out there, they can understand the issues that are not about wizards and dragons. Sorry if you do not want to read books like 'Twilight' series and prefer to read things which is considered good literature. My parents have no problem with it and are happier than I read books, but only a love for the classics, while most people I know think it is great to not read. So what you think. I agree that there should be some limits to what they read novels, do you think it is not appropriate for teenagers to read novels for adults?
The books are your best friends and reading is a good thing. Personally, I as age has nothing to do with reading. While you enjoy reading everything that is good.
